Born on October 14, 1967, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Cathy grew up in the Sunshine State and attended the University of Miami, where she was a proud member of the Hurricanes’ “Band of the Hour.” After completing medical school at the University of North Carolina and a residency in family medicine in Spartinburg, South Carolina, Cathy moved to Minnesota, where she fell in love with the health system and the serene Mille Lacs Lake area.

Cathy’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she embraced parenthood with passion. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and school trip chaperone, and in 2000, she joyfully welcomed her adored daughter, Joy Chenghui Xu, into her life through adoption from Nanjing, China.
