Death and Background
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce M. Smith on November 25, 2023, in Gracedale. Joyce, who was 92 years old, was born in Emanuelsville, Moore Township, to the late Arthur L. Silvius and Anna A. (Feller). She had previously resided in Walnutport. Joyce’s beloved spouse, Marvin E. Smith, passed away in 2007, after 19 years of marriage.
Employment and Retirement
Joyce dedicated over 30 years of her life to working at the former Sportette Fashions in Moore Township. During her time there, she was a proud member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. In 1989, Joyce retired from her career, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Interests and Hobbies
Beyond her professional life, Joyce had a passion for bowling. She was an avid bowler and actively participated in the Holy Family Club league for many years. Joyce also had a deep love for her home, taking great pride in maintaining it. Her kitchen was her sanctuary, where she delighted in preparing delicious meals for herself and her loved ones. Additionally, Joyce was a devout Sunday worshipper at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she found solace and spiritual fulfillment.
Surviving Family Members
Joyce is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Judy L. Melchior of Nazareth and Timothy C. Deemer and Dora of The Villages, Florida. She also leaves behind a grandson, Zachariah J. Melchior, and Maria of Lehighton, along with several other relatives. Joyce’s presence will be deeply missed, and she will be remembered with immense love. Preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin, two siblings, William A. “Bill” Sr. and Willard G. Silvius, as well as two sisters, Alma and Arlene Arnold.
