Despite the absence of compelling endorsements, the Democrats presented Sheriff Javier Salazar from Bexar County, Texas, as a supporter of Harris. However, his performance quickly shifted towards the absurd, as Salazar made a series of questionable assertions regarding Harris’ effectiveness at the southern border, raising eyebrows and skepticism akin to that experienced during a reality television show.
Salazar attempted to draw a stark contrast between Harris’ border policies and those from the Trump administration. He claimed, albeit unconvincingly, that Trump utilized photo opportunities with law enforcement solely for personal gain, while Harris has been a dedicated fighter against border-related crime. The irony is palpable; a brief look back reveals that Salazar has previously vocalized dissatisfaction with the Biden administration’s management of border issues, which undermines any newfound allegiance to Harris.
During his time on stage, Salazar claimed that Harris had “fought border crime for years,” which included travels to Mexico to confront drug traffickers and secure convictions. Such assertions were met with disbelief, prompting the audience to collectively wonder if they were experiencing a collective case of amnesia regarding prior performances.
