Doug Emhoff’s ‘USA’ Chant Backfires, Leaves Kamala Harris Embarrassed

In an unexpectedly awkward situation, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff recently faced a peculiar moment while campaigning in Grand Rapids. Traveling to support his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Emhoff aimed to boost the crowd’s spirits but instead found himself generating a call for understanding rather than enthusiasm.

During the event before a modest audience, Emhoff began by reading from notes about his wife. This approach raised eyebrows, especially among those who expected heartfelt testimony from a spouse. His reliance on notes to articulate his admiration for Harris puzzled attendees who wondered about the nature of their relationship.

“Who is that person? She’s joyful, which is a good thing. She’s also tough, which is a good thing,” Emhoff said as he referred to his notes. “And it’s her empathy, it’s her superpower. Her ability to understand what other people are going through, that is really her strength.” This endorsement of his spouse was undoubtedly heartfelt, yet it lacked the spontaneity expected from a life partner.

However, the moment took a more cringe-worthy turn when Emhoff attempted to initiate a “USA” chant. Starting with enthusiasm, he shouted, “USA! USA!” only to be met with a lukewarm response, as the chant fizzled amid a few hesitant cheers from the audience.

Harris and Emhoff, who celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on August 22, have navigated public scrutiny since their union in 2014. The hallmark anniversary coincided with Harris accepting her party’s presidential nomination, providing a poignant backdrop to their journey.

Doug Emhoff reading off notes to talk about Kamala’s qualities? How touching. I wonder if they have a teleprompter in the bedroom?
