Democratic Congresswoman Shocks with Endorsement of Trump

Former Democratic Congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard has officially endorsed former President Donald Trump in his bid to return to the White House. Gabbard, recognized for her critiques of her party’s leadership and policies, made this announcement during a Trump rally, expressing concerns over national security and governmental overreach.

“She’s got great common sense, great spirit, and she loves our country,” Trump stated before inviting her on stage at the National Guard event in Michigan. Gabbard, known for her unconventional perspectives within the Democratic Party, emphasized that her endorsement stemmed from a desire to prevent potential conflicts. “We have never been closer to the brink of nuclear war than now,” she articulated. “This is one of the main reasons why I’m committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House, where he can once again serve us as our Commander-in-Chief.”

“I am confident that his first task will be to do the work to walk us back from the brink of war,” Gabbard added. “We cannot be prosperous unless we are at peace. And we can’t live free as long as we have a government that is retaliating against its people.” Those familiar with her previous statements recognize a consistent theme of advocacy for peace and an end to militaristic approaches abroad.

After serving in Congress from 2013 to 2021, Gabbard left the Democratic Party in 2022, labeling it an “elitist cabal of warmongers.” This unexpected alliance forms as Trump prepares for a pivotal debate against Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10 at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia, a crucial moment in the lead-up to the electoral showdown.

WATCH:

Earlier in August, Trump enlisted Gabbard’s support as he prepared for the debate with Harris. Their history includes a notable clash during the 2019 Democratic primary debates, where they discussed issues surrounding criminal justice reform. Over the years, Gabbard has increasingly distanced herself from the Democratic Party, critiquing its leadership and policy directions following her presidential run.

According to recent reports, Trump’s choice to work with Gabbard was influenced by her impactful debate performance in 2019, where she sharply criticized Harris’s record as a prosecutor in California. Gabbard’s remarks during that debate left a significant impression, and Trump is reportedly looking to leverage this critique in his upcoming debate. Gabbard disclosed, “Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president, but I’m deeply concerned about this record.” She specifically pointed out, “There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.”

WATCH:

Gabbard’s alignment with Trump, while unexpected for many, aligns with her recent efforts to find a role within conservative circles, having appeared frequently on conservative media platforms. Her endorsement follows Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump, adding to the potential reshaping of the political landscape ahead of the upcoming election. Trump’s campaign has publicly criticized the current administration, branding it as disconnected from the central issues that Americans face daily.
